MEDICAL MISSION

Floating Doctors

Panama, Bocas del Toro province

Panama Stamina

Imagine packing up supplies, flying to another country, hopping in a car to the nearest dock to then venture across waters to then set up a med clinic for a community of whom does not speak the same language you do. This is nothing more than a routine endeavour for the Floating Doctors organization. The journey these missionaries take is indescribable, going through the moody rain and beating sun is everything except a sign to go back, and a motive to move faster . The smallest detail of teaching someone how to tie their shoes is mind blowing when you realize this is the first pair they have ever had on their feet.

Floating Doctors Panama 2022

With years of partnership, MDF has recently donated some supplies to the Floating Doctors for their recent trip to Panama, Bocas del Toro province. “The Floating Doctors Mission is to reduce the present and future burden of disease in the developing world, and to promote improvements in health care delivery worldwide”.

With the building of their mobile boat to sail anywhere necessary, especially after the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, The Floating Doctors have been nonstop. Benjamin LaBrot, Founder and CEO of Floating Doctors started this global outreach for medical care when he was traveling as a new doctor in Tanzania. With an increasing number of locals who figured he was a doctor, asking him to look at whatever may have needed medical attention, he realized this was the first step to helping on a bigger scale.

The Floating Doctors returned to Panama, working hand in hand with MINSA, the ministry of health in Panama. They utilized their mobile clinics for anyone to receive care, medications, treatments and small operations. They also partnered with the vaccination teams in order to do widespread vaccinations during their local clinics. It's amazing how partnerships come together to make an even bigger widespread difference. The local HIV clinic is one of their partners and the Floating Doctors supplied fortified Mannapack rice and assisted those patients in need with delivering their medication.
